I have spent many years in development countries, seeing first  hand the challenges and impact of poverty. It is not something we can, or should get used too. We need to get out there and help those in need, especially children. Why Shoes? For most of us; it is hard to even imagine, that there are millions of children who must walk barefoot, and never owned a pair of shoes. Their little feet, connects them to this planet, and a thin layer of skin is the only line of defense against deadly diseases and germs. Many lose their feet to amputation, before the age of five. Most children in development countries grow up bare foot; this is their primary form of transportation. Often they must walk for miles, to get water, food, shelter, attend remote schools, or seek medical care. Wearing shoes literally enables them to walk distances that aren't possible barefoot. Wearing shoes prevents feet from getting cuts and sores on unsafe roads and from contaminated soil. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected. The leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted parasites which penetrate the skin through open sores. Wearing shoes can prevent this and the risk of amputation. Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.  There is one simple solution...SHOES. Lets take a small step towards giving a child one pair of shoes he or she desperately needs. No one remembers a 100 years from now, how much money you had, or what kind of car you drove, but if you leave a positive impact in a child’s life, you send a widening ripple of love, down a lasting eternity.
